Safety And Trust

Is Reluvved safe?

We've built multiple safety features into Reluvved, but ultimately safety is a shared responsibility between you and other community members.

What we do:

  • Reputation system to identify reliable members
  • In-app messaging (no need to share personal contact info)
  • Content moderation (AI + human review)
  • Reporting tools for inappropriate behavior
  • Safety tips and best practices throughout the app
  • Public meeting location suggestions

What you should do:

  • Trust your instincts – if something feels off, skip it
  • Meet in public, well-lit places (never at your home until you're comfortable)
  • Bring someone with you if possible
  • Check items for recalls before accepting
  • Inspect items before leaving the meeting location
  • Keep initial communication in the app

Where should I meet for pickups?

Best meeting locations:

  • Police station parking lots (many have designated exchange zones)
  • Public library entrances
  • Busy grocery store parking lots
  • Coffee shops or restaurants
  • Community center or recreation center
  • Fire stations
  • Well-lit gas stations (during daytime)

Avoid:

  • Private homes (unless you know the person well)
  • Isolated areas
  • Late night locations
  • Areas you're unfamiliar with

Pro tip: Many police stations have designated "Safe Exchange Zones" with cameras. Search for "safe exchange zone near me" to find one.

How do I know if items are safe for my kids?

Before accepting an item:

  1. Check for recalls

    • Visit CPSC.gov and search the item
    • Many recalls are for car seats, cribs, and toys
    • Never accept a recalled item
  2. Inspect for damage

    • Missing parts or safety features
    • Broken straps, buckles, or fasteners
    • Cracks, sharp edges, or wear
    • Small parts that could be choking hazards
  3. Verify age-appropriateness

    • Check age labels and warnings
    • Consider your child's development stage
    • When in doubt, look up the product online
  4. Ask questions

    • "Has this ever been recalled?"
    • "Were there any accidents or issues with it?"
    • "Does it have all original parts?"
    • "How many years was it used?"

If something seems unsafe, it's okay to decline it politely.

What if I have a bad experience with someone?

If someone is rude, inappropriate, or makes you uncomfortable:

  1. During the exchange: Leave immediately if you feel unsafe
  2. After the exchange:
    • Don't complete the confirmation in the app
    • Report them using the "Report Issue" button on their profile
    • Block them to prevent future interactions
  3. If serious: Contact local authorities if you feel threatened

We review all reports and take action against users who violate community guidelines, including:

  • Warnings
  • Temporary suspension
  • Permanent account removal

Can I report inappropriate posts or behavior?

Yes! Every post and profile has a "Report" option. Report content that:

  • Contains inappropriate images
  • Violates community guidelines
  • Seems like spam or scam
  • Describes unsafe or recalled items
  • Makes you uncomfortable

We review reports within 24 hours and remove content that violates our guidelines.

How does the community moderation work?

We use a combination of:

  1. AI content moderation: Automatically screens images for inappropriate content
  2. Human review: Our team reviews reported posts and accounts
  3. Community reporting: Users help flag problems
  4. Automated flags: System alerts us to suspicious patterns

This multi-layered approach keeps the community safe while respecting privacy.

What information is visible to other users?

Other users CAN see:

  • Your first name and profile photo
  • Your reputation score
  • Your children's ages (if you added them)
  • Your approximate location (ZIP code area, not exact address)
  • Your activity (when you were last active, roughly)

Other users CANNOT see:

  • Your full name, email, or phone number
  • Your exact address
  • Your transaction history with others
  • Private messages with other users
  • Items you've saved (until you express interest)

You control what you share. You're never required to give out personal contact information.

Can I block someone?

Yes. If you don't want to interact with someone:

  1. Go to their profile
  2. Tap the menu (⋯)
  3. Select "Block User"

Once blocked:

  • They can't see your posts
  • You won't see their posts
  • Neither can message the other
  • Past exchanges stay in history (for transparency)

You can unblock them later if you change your mind.

What happens to my data if I delete my account?

When you request account deletion:

  1. Your profile is immediately hidden from other users
  2. Your posts are removed within 24 hours
  3. Your personal data is deleted within 30 days
  4. Anonymous transaction history may be retained for platform safety

See our Data Deletion Policy for full details.

Is my location data shared?

We only share your approximate location (ZIP code area) with other users. We never share:

  • Your exact address
  • GPS coordinates
  • Specific neighborhood or street

Your exact location is only known by you and anyone you choose to meet in person.
