Finding Items
How do I find items for my kids?
Reluvved offers three ways to browse:
1. "For You" tab (Recommended)
- Shows items matched to your children's ages
- Updated based on what you interact with
- Best for discovering relevant items quickly
2. "Browse All" tab
- See everything available nearby
- Filter by category, age, distance
- Great when you know exactly what you want
3. Search
- Search for specific items ("toddler bike", "chapter books")
- Filter results by distance and category
- Useful for hard-to-find items
What does "express interest" mean?
When you tap the heart icon on an item:
- The giver sees that you're interested (along with other interested families)
- They can view your profile to decide who should get it
- If they choose you, you'll get a notification
- You can then coordinate pickup through the app
Think of it like raising your hand – it doesn't guarantee you'll get the item, but it shows the giver you want it.
Why not first-come-first-served? Givers can choose families they feel comfortable meeting, or give priority to families who really need something. It's more personal and community-oriented.
How does the reputation system work?
Every user has a reputation score (0-100) based on:
- Completed exchanges (+5 points each): You showed up!
- Attempted exchanges (+2 points): You tried to coordinate
- Cancellations (-3 points): You canceled at the last minute
- No-shows (-10 points): You didn't show up
- Content violations (-10 to -50 points): You posted inappropriate content
Higher reputation = more trustworthy. Givers can see your score when deciding who to give items to.
How to build reputation:
- Complete exchanges (show up on time!)
- Be responsive in messages
- Give accurate item descriptions
- Be reliable and respectful
What's the distance shown on posts?
The distance is "as the crow flies" from your saved location to the giver's approximate location. Actual driving distance may be longer.
We show approximate locations (not exact addresses) until you coordinate pickup. This protects everyone's privacy while helping you judge if an item is nearby.
Can I save items for later?
Yes! Tap the bookmark icon to save items to your "Saved Items" list. This is helpful when:
- You're not sure yet but want to remember it
- You're waiting to see if other items become available
- You want to show your partner or family before deciding
Saved items don't reserve them – other families can still claim them.
Why does it say "Pending" on some items?
"Pending" means:
- The giver has chosen someone, but
- The exchange hasn't been completed yet
The item might become available again if the exchange falls through, so you can keep it saved.
What if I expressed interest but wasn't chosen?
Don't take it personally! Givers consider many factors:
- Proximity (they might choose someone closer)
- Reputation score
- Family size/needs
- Response time
- Personal preference
Keep expressing interest in other items – there are always more becoming available!
Can I filter by brand or specific products?
The AI sometimes detects brands and specific product names. You can:
- Search for brand names ("Carter's clothes")
- Use the Vision Labels filter (if available)
- Browse Similar Products links on item listings
We're working on improving brand and product matching!
How far away will I see items?
By default, you'll see items within 25 miles of your location. You can adjust this in Settings:
- Near me (0-10 miles): Walking/biking distance
- My area (10-25 miles): Quick drive
- My region (25-50 miles): Worth the trip for special items
- Far away (50+ miles): Only if you really want it
The map view shows exact distances so you can decide.
What's "Stuff for My Kids"?
This smart feed shows items specifically matched to your children's ages and interests. It uses:
- Your kids' ages (from profiles)
- Categories they need (based on what you've claimed before)
- Items nearby that fit their age range
- Popular items similar to what you've saved
It's the fastest way to find relevant items without endless scrolling.
