Giving Items

How do I list an item?

  1. Go to "Add Listing" tab in the bottom nav bar
  2. Take or select a photo of your item
  3. Our AI will automatically:
    • Write a description
    • Suggest the item category
    • Estimate the condition
    • Guess the age range
    • Find similar products online for reference
  4. Review and edit anything the AI got wrong
  5. Tap "Post" to make it available

The whole process takes less than a minute!

What's "Instant Post" and should I use it?

Instant post allows you to take a picture and convert it into a post without waiting for you to review the AI generated description. Note: AI does mess things up sometimes, it's usually pretty good and people can figure it out but be warned.

Use Instant Post when:

  • You need the item gone ASAP
  • It's a common item (books, clothes)
  • You don't mind an AI assigned price

Don't use Instant Post when:

  • It's a valuable or special item
  • You have a particular price, description, or condition in mind

You can set your preference in Settings, or choose per-item when posting.

How does the AI photo description work?

When you upload a photo, our AI analyzes it using computer vision and generates:

  • Description: What the item is and key features
  • Category: Clothing, Toys, Books, Gear, etc.
  • Condition: Based on visible wear (you can override this!)
  • Age range: Who it's appropriate for
  • Estimated original price: What it might have cost new
  • Similar products: Links to help identify the exact item

Can I edit it? Absolutely! The AI is helpful but not perfect. You can edit every field before posting. Instant post bypasses this step.

How do I coordinate pickup?

  1. When families express interest, you'll see them in your "Interested Families" list
  2. Review their profiles and choose who to give it to
  3. Once you select someone, you can:
    • Message them through the app
    • Suggest meeting locations (police stations, libraries, grocery stores)
    • Set a pickup time
  4. Meet at the agreed location and hand off the item
  5. Both of you confirm the exchange in the app

Important: Keep all communication in the app until you're comfortable. No need to share your phone number or address until you're ready.

What if someone doesn't show up for pickup?

If someone doesn't show up:

  1. Wait at least 15 minutes past the agreed time
  2. Try messaging them in the app
  3. If they don't respond within 24 hours, you can:
    • Mark them as a "no-show" in the app (affects their reputation)
    • Choose a different family from your interested list
    • Re-post the item if needed

Your reputation won't be affected by someone else's no-show.

Can I give multiple items to the same family?

Yes! If you're decluttering, you can:

  • List multiple related items (e.g., "Bundle of 3T clothes")
  • Let the same family claim multiple separate posts
  • Coordinate one pickup for everything

This saves everyone time and reduces trips.

What items aren't allowed?

For everyone's safety, please don't post:

  • Recalled items (check CPSC.gov)
  • Items with safety issues or missing parts
  • Food, formula, or medications
  • Items that aren't appropriate for children
  • Anything damaged, broken, or unsanitary

We moderate posts and may remove items that violate these guidelines. If you see something that is inappropriate, please report it to us. There's an icon you can tap to do that!

How long do items stay posted?

Items remain posted until:

  • Someone claims it and you complete the exchange
  • You delete the post
  • It's flagged and removed for guideline violations

There's no automatic expiration, but you can edit or remove posts anytime.

Can I save drafts?

Yes! If you're not ready to post yet:

  • Add photos and let the AI process them
  • Save the item to your inventory without posting
  • Edit and post it later when you're ready

Unpublished items only you can see.
