How Does Reluvved Work?
For Givers (Sellers)
Creating Items
You can add items to Reluvved in two ways:
1. AI Image Processing (Recommended)
- Snap a photo of your item
- Our AI analyzes the image and fills in details automatically:
- Description
- Category
- Condition
- Estimated age range
- Suggested price
- Similar products online
- Review and edit any details before posting
2. Manual Entry
- Enter all item details yourself
- Great for items that are hard to photograph
- Takes more time but gives you full control
Either way, the item is added to your inventory first. This lets you prepare items at your own pace before making them visible to others.
AI Item Creation - Important Notes
AI is helpful but not perfect. Here's what to know:
- Review AI-generated content carefully, especially if your item is unusual or hard to identify
- Check the confidence score: We show how accurate we think our analysis is
- Green badge = high confidence
- Yellow badge = medium confidence, review recommended
- Red badge = low confidence, definitely review!
- Be extra careful with AI-suggested prices
- Buyers will see this price when they bid
- Changing the price later can seem dishonest (even if it's not your fault!)
- We flag AI-generated prices so buyers know they're estimates
Pro tip: Always review AI descriptions for accuracy. You know your item best!
Posting Items
Once you've created an item in your inventory:
- Choose when to "Post" it to make it visible to other users
- Important: Once posted, items cannot be edited unless you delete the post
- This prevents confusion for buyers who have already seen or saved your post
Why have inventory separate from posts?
- Create items whenever convenient (batch process!)
- Review AI suggestions before going live
- Post items strategically (one at a time or all at once)
- Keep unpublished items private until ready
What Happens After Posting?
Once your post is live:
- Nearby users see your item (within 25 miles of their location)
- Smart matching: If they have kids matching your item's age range, we highlight it
- Notifications: Users who opt-in get digest notifications (1-2x per day, never spam!)
- Wait for bids: Interested buyers will place bids on your item
- You choose: Review bids and select who gets the item
You're in control of who you give items to!
For Finders (Buyers)
Finding Items
Best way: "For You" Tab
- Add your children to your family profile (Account > Family)
- Tap "For You" at the bottom
- We automatically show items matched to your kids' ages
- Privacy note: Only age ranges are used for matching, not names or other details
Alternative: Browse All
- See all available posts nearby
- Filter by category, age range, distance
- Search is limited to 25 miles from your ZIP code (for safety and relevance)
Interacting with Posts
You can:
- Heart (❤️): Save items to your "Saved Items" list
- Share: Tell friends about great finds
- Report: Flag inappropriate or unsafe posts
Saved items don't reserve them – they just help you remember things you're interested in.
Placing a Bid
Found something you want? Here's how bidding works:
Bidding is NOT an auction – it's more like "expressing interest." The seller chooses who gets the item based on:
- Distance: How close you are (based on ZIP codes)
- Bid amount: What you offered (if they set a price)
- Reputation: Your reliability score (more on this below)
Reputation Score (0-100):
- Goes up: Complete transactions, post items, be active
- Goes down: No-shows, cancellations, reports from other users
- Higher reputation = more likely to be chosen
Tip: Be a reliable community member and your reputation will grow!
If Your Bid is Accepted
Congratulations! The meetup process begins.
Meetups
How Meetups Work
- Seller suggests a location and time
- Buyer responds – accept or suggest alternatives
- Negotiate back and forth until you agree (or one side cancels)
- If canceled: Post becomes visible again, seller can choose another bid
- If agreed: Proceed to exchange!
During the Meetup
Once time and location are set:
- Quick notifications: Let your counterpart know if you're running late
- "Complete Transaction" button: Both parties mark it complete after exchange
- Be reliable: Show up on time, communicate changes, be respectful
Safety First
Please read our safety guidelines before any meetup.
Important reminders:
- Reluvved cannot manage your safety during meetups
- We cannot be liable for what happens during exchanges
- We don't have staff to assist during meetups
- If you ever feel unsafe: dial 911 and leave immediately
We provide:
- Safety tips and best practices
- Suggested meeting locations
- In-app messaging (no need to share phone numbers)
- Reputation system to identify reliable users
- Reporting and blocking tools
You are responsible for:
- Choosing safe meeting locations
- Trusting your instincts
- Inspecting items before accepting
- Your own personal safety
After the Meetup
Both parties should mark the transaction complete so:
- ✅ You both get reputation credit
- ✅ The exchange is documented
- ✅ The item is removed from listings
That's It!
Reluvved makes it easy for parents to pass along outgrown items to other families nearby. Over time, we'll keep improving based on your feedback to make the process even smoother.
We truly hope Reluvved makes parenting a little easier – and a lot more affordable!
